My favourite thing about the skin-care industry is all of the massive advances in anti-aging solutions and the ever increasing breadth of treatment options. This is directly as a result of continual advances in laser technology and fervent competition between the manufacturers of these highly advanced machines.
Before laser technology became an option, the only way to tighten skin was products such as Botox and other artificial fillers which were directly injected into areas where patients wanted their skin to be tightened. While these options became popular, they carried some major disadvantages. First, these injections were often painful and would result in some downtime and recovery for the patient. Secondly, the results were let’s just say, less than stellar. These injection therapies would often leave patients unsatisfied with the result as the final look would drastically change their appearance and simply look unnatural, making it obvious that they had “work done”.
Laser Skin tightening has become increasingly popular with celebrities because it’s non-invasive, non-surgical and has no downtime. The final result is a natural youthful appearance that turns back the time on your look!
How We Age:
As we get older new cell formation slows down with each passing year, we also lose overall cell volume. A good analogy is to imagine a mattress that you’ve slept on your entire life. Its springs eventually wear out. The same is true for your skin. Cheeks become more droopy, our lips less plump and our jawline starts to sag.
Secondly, our collagen bonds (which hold skin cells together) start to separate from one another. We see this as wrinkles around the mouth, crow’s feet around the eyes and lines on our forehead. So what can be done to stimulate naturally, collagen production, which in turn reverses the two causes of aging skin?
Scientists realized that by infusing light and heat therapy into the skin it can stimulate collagen production a thousand times faster than any other product or technique. This fact was discovered accidentally by scientists treating other skin conditions. They noticed that skin became firmer, and the wrinkles began to fade as they applied various laser therapies. After this discovery, they decided to perfect the technique and thus a whole new way of skin tightening, using lasers, was born.
Different Lasers for Treating Lax Skin And Soften Lines and Wrinkles
Laser skin tightening uses a Light Source (a laser) to tighten skin by heating the collagen under the skin’s surface, causing the skin to contract (tighten). Facial skin tightening is noticeable immediately after the treatment, and there is no downtime, making this an increasingly popular procedure. Additional skin tightening occurs over the next few months, but optimal results usually require two or three treatments about a month apart. This, of course, is dependent on your age and state of collagen production.
Laser skin tightening is an FDA approved method for the reduction of fine lines, wrinkles, and skin laxity. While laser skin tightening results may not be as dramatic as those of a face-lift, patients can enjoy moderate to excellent results.
