Say farewell to thick, discoloured nails.

Flaunt your nails and wear your most toe-baring footwear (or live on the edge and forgo footwear altogether) without feeling insecure or dealing with discomfort. Nail fungus can be unsightly, embarrassing and painful but we’ve got your back.

Restore Healthy Nails!

If you’re bothered by discolored, thick and crumbling nails, we have a safe, drug-free way to rejuvenate them! Laser treatment can improve the toenails’ appearance and health by stimulating blood flow and revitalizing the nail and skin for faster growth.

We use the GenesisPlus Laser, which selectively heats the nail and doesn’t harm the surrounding tissue. Your NuAGE laser technician will pass the laser beam over each nail a few times until the energy penetrates the nail bed to boost circulation and enhance cell turnover. The process is safe and virtually painless. While results aren’t visible immediately, a more normal nail will grow out over time replacing the damaged one.

You should visit a doctor to get a correct diagnosis before seeking out any treatment. In some cases, it may take a combination of approaches to nix nail fungus. However, with patience and a plan, you’ll be left with clear nails and renewed confidence.

How does laser toenail rejuvenation work?

A: Light pulses from the GenesisPlus Laser pass through the nail and nail bed on toes and fingers without damaging the healthy surrounding tissue. It dries everything out and stimulates blood flow to revitalize the nails and skin. GenesisPlus is a long pulse laser, which provides deeper penetration than short pulse lasers.

What are the symptoms of toenail fungus?

A: There’s a good chance you’ve been afflicted with fungus if you have one or more of the following symptoms:

  • Discolored nails
  • Yellow streaks under the nail
  • Distorted or thick nails
  • Brittle, crumbly or ragged nails
  • Nails separated from the underlying skin
  • A buildup of debris (nail fragments, skin) under the nail
  • White spots or streaks on the nail surface

What is laser nail rejuvenation like? Does laser toenail rejuvenation hurt?

A: The process involves passing a laser beam over the damaged nails and surrounding skin. Your certified NuAGE laser technician will repeat this several times until enough energy has reached the nail bed. The procedure is virtually painless. We promise you won’t be jumping off the table. Your nail will feel warm during treatment (think of it as a nice bonus during cold weather.)

How long are laser treatments for toenail rejuvenation and how many sessions will I need?

A: A major plus of laser treatment for toenail rejuvenation is you can do it on your lunch break. A single session only takes about 20 minutes for all 10 nails. However, session time can vary so be sure to ask your NuAGE clinician about your specific case.

The number of sessions required will depend on how misshapen the nail is and how long it’s been that way. The minimum number of treatments is three sessions spaced six weeks apart. As the nail grows, you’ll see new, healthy nail. However, keep in mind, they tend to grow slowly.

What causes toenail fungus (onychomycosis)?

A: Contact with dermatophytes, which can be found everywhere in the environment, causes toenail fungal infections. Dermatophytes love to hang around certain areas like swimming pools, public showers, gyms and nail spas. Tight fitting shoes and nail trauma can also lead to nail fungus. The chances of developing a nail infection increase due to genetic susceptibility, poor health and increasing age.

What treatments are available for toenail fungus?

A: If you’ve been struggling to find the right solution for toenail fungus, we certainly feel your pain. It’s a frustrating problem. Current treatment options for toenail fungus include oral medications, topical drugs and laser. No single treatment is effective for every patient and there are risks and benefits associated with each one. It’s important to discuss all of your treatment options with your doctor and receive a diagnosis before choosing an option.

Oral drugs can be very effective for destroying toenail fungus but the side effects are the major drawback. The medication must be taken for six to 12 weeks and can cause headache, diarrhea, skin rash and upset stomach. Serious side effects include the risk of liver damage and heart failure. Weekly blood tests may be require to monitor your liver function. Patients in poor health or those who have liver disease can’t use these medications.

Topical medications aren’t as effective in treating toenail fungus. The drugs are applied directly to the nail for up to 12 months. While there are no significant side effects, the topical remedies might not work because they don’t always pass through the nail to reach the fungus.

At NuAGE Laser, we’re not doctors and we can’t claim to treat nail fungus. However, the laser does rejuvenate the toenail to enhance its appearance and health. In some cases, particularly if the fungus is severe, a combination of approaches might work best. For example, you could take oral medication to treat fungus and try laser treatments to restore healthy nails.

Will my toenail remain clean and healthy?

A: You’ll need to continue with homecare techniques and good hygiene to prevent recurrence as advised by your doctor.
