FAQ

How do dark spots on the skin form?

A: Everyone has melanin, which is produced by specialized skin cells called melanocytes. Melanin’s purpose is to protect your skin from sun damage and it’s the reason why the skin tans. As we age, sun exposure, medications and other factors can cause melanocytes to band together creating dark spots that make their way to the skin’s surface.

How does laser for dark spots work?

A: Laser is a natural way to target dark spots from the inside. A pulse of light is delivered that goes through the skin and breaks apart the clusters of pigmentation. While some of the superficial pigmentation rises to the surface and sloughs off, the deeper pigmentation is dissolved through the circulatory system. The heating of the dark spots is what stimulates the therapeutic effect.

How many laser treatments for dark spots will I need?

A: IIt varies by individual, however, the majority of patients have between one and three treatments. If your skin is extremely sun damaged or dark spots are very high contrast, additional treatments could be recommended. Touch-up treatments may be necessary.

What will happen to my skin after a laser treatment for dark spots?

A: You’ll look awesome. But first, there’s a healing process. Right after a session, dark spots will get a little darker and your skin might look mildly flushed. The flushed appearance will go away within an hour.

The age spots sometimes take on a gray shade, which typically subsides after three days. If you want to get the shedding process going faster, exfoliation is helpful. We’ll also provide you with homecare for the best possible results.

What areas can be treated with laser for dark spots?

A: Laser treatment is an ideal way to banish dark spots from any part of your face, neck and chest. Even low contrast (light) dark spots respond well to the laser. Hyperpigmentation can’t hide from IPL!

What do laser treatments for dark spots feel like?

A: Patients sometimes feel a slight heat or pinching sensation when the light pulse is delivered. Don’t worry. It’s mild and no pain medicine or anesthesia is necessary.

How long will laser treatment for dark spots take?

A: The length of the session will depend on the area of the body we’re treating. However, most of the time treatments take less than 30 minutes. Perfect lunch break timing.

Will the dark spots reappear over time?

A: Though your skin will look fantastic, you’ll still have to care for it to keep it that way, since new sun damage can cause new dark spots. You can probably guess what we’re going to say next, but here goes: Wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 every day to prevent dark spots from reappearing.
