As your skin health experts, we understand that beauty is more than skin deep and that, oftentimes, concerns we have with the condition of our skin are both directly and indirectly related to something else going on internally, ranging from hormonal fluctuations to gut health imbalances. We want to treat your skin on every level and keep inflammation, breakouts or dullness out of your life for good! So, how exactly can we accomplish that? Well, with the expertise of our very own Naturopath, Dr. Steven Jones, and our new All Body Wellness and Naturopathic Dermatology treatments. Stop treating the symptom and get to the root cause.
Dr. Jones began his journey into healthcare in 1999 when he graduated from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine. He then opened a private practice in Kamloops in 2000. He has travelled extensively throughout Canada, the United States and Europe, learning advanced treatments and practice modalities and stays at the forefront of naturopathic medicine. Dr. Jones is committed to continued learning and providing you with the most up-to-date, modern care.
For nearly 20 years, he has worked meticulously, providing his patients with prolotherapy and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy for chronic pain, advanced intravenous and immune therapies, hormone therapy and aesthetic medicine. Dr. Jones’ healthcare philosophy emphasizes empowering individuals to learn, actively participate in and advocate for their own unique health goals and well-being in an environment that encourages education, partnership and customized care. He uses comprehensive diagnostic tools to identify the underlying causes of your health concerns and offers evidence-based treatments and innovative technologies.
What is Naturopathic Medicine?
Naturopathic medicine focuses on natural approaches to wellness and treating the body as a whole, as opposed to just treating a symptom and, more importantly, not suppressing symptoms. To oversimplify how it all works, Dr. Jones does a full health and lifestyle assessment and asks a series of questions to help get to the root of the problem by evaluating what’s going on with all of your systems. Because the many systems in our body are so interconnected, there could be multiple factors that need to be addressed.
Now you might be asking, “But how can naturopathic medicine help me?” The easy answer is, in just about every way you can imagine. Whether you’re struggling with PMS, menopause, skin concerns, like acne or eczema, stress, anxiety, insomnia or even digestion and weight gain, hair loss and hormonal hair growth, naturopathic medicine has a remedy. As your skin health experts, we know the importance of treating the skin from within, which is why we’re so excited to be able to offer the expertise of Dr. Steven Jones to our beautiful clients.
Our skin is our largest organ and one of its primary functions is to act as your body’s first line of defense against environmental factors. Our skin can also reveal a whole lot about our internal health. Langerhans cells, or immune cells, which are often known for being present in our lymph nodes, are also found in the skin. This makes it part of our adaptive immune system. So, when other systems are out of whack or the body is overloaded with toxins, it will show on our skin.
When dealing with skin conditions, Dr. Jones identifies and treats the underlying cause of the particular concern. For example, acne can be due to food sensitivities, blood sugar dysregulation, nutritional deficiencies, impaired digestion and hormonal imbalances. Dr. Jones develops a comprehensive treatment plan that targets these causes for long-term improvements, while also providing short-term symptom support. Recommendations may include dietary changes, as well as supplementation with relevant herbs and vitamins. Some lab testing could be required to identify food sensitivities and hormonal irregularities.
Naturopathic dermatology is all about supporting key systems within the body to promote detoxification and restore balance. When the body is rife with toxins, they come out in the skin and provoke inflammation, which results in the skin becoming distressed. Signs of distressed skin can include:
- Seborrheic dermatitis
- Rashes or inflammation
- Bacterial or fungal infections
- Melasma and premature aging
ALL BODY WELLNESS
MOOD AND ENERGY LEVELS – FEMALE HORMONES – WEIGHT LOSS, DIGESTION AND GUT HEALTH
For everything else, you can ask for All Body Wellness with Dr. Jones. This covers all of the bases including emotional and mood support and energy levels, female hormones (PMS, menopause, etc.) and even weight loss and digestive/gut health.
As we mentioned before, since all of our systems are so connected, one symptom or condition can trigger another until there are myriad things going on. Much like with treating skin concerns, Dr. Jones will start your initial visit by asking a series of questions to understand your health history and lifestyle. He’ll then create a customized, comprehensive treatment plan to get to the root cause for long-term improvement alongside short-term symptom support. He may recommend making dietary changes or taking the appropriate herb and vitamin supplements. If necessary, lab testing can be done to determine food sensitivities and uncover hormonal irregularities.
