My cheeks are starting to show signs of premature aging due to too much time spent in the sun. I have spots that bother me to the point where I can’t leave the house without wearing makeup to hide the unevenness.

Why Premature Aging Happens

All those years of exposing your skin to the sun are starting to show. It usually takes anywhere from 20-40 years for the effects of sun damage to the surface. Says Dr.Tam. while not everyone experiences the adverse effects of the sun the same some notice a change in texture, elasticity or darkening of the skin sunspots or brown spots, mark a buildup of melanin.

The best way to avoid sunspots is prevention with SPF. a good sunscreen worn on a daily basis that covers both UVA and UVB rays is imperative (rain or shine)!

Fix it with:

1. Exfoliation

2. A hefty dose of vitamin A more powerful when it’s packaged as a perscription-strength retinoid, and is key in any anti-sun damage arsenal since it speed up the rate of cellular renewal. The longer you use it the better your skin will look.

3. In-Office Laser if the skin is light in colour but the spots are dark, IPL (Light/Laser therapy) is a great option. If the skin is darker, a series of chemical peels may be more effective in jump-starting the natural exfoliation process. Fractional CO2 lasers, are usually reserved for those with severe sunspots and major skin texture changes such as indented acne scars.
